A little while back I painted a big mural right off the old square in Mcdonough, Georgia. A few weeks ago I did a book reading for my new book on the square. After the event they had a dedication ceremony for my new mural. During the speech they announced that they were starting the Kyle Brooks Honorary Art Scholarship. Goodness gracious. I feel so honored and I hardly know what to say. “Here young man… hold this bright colored sign and smile.” —- Business leaders, people from the school system, art supporters and a city official with a message from the Mayor were all there. They even had a chicken with a bow tie. I really felt humbled and flattered and maybe a bit scattered. I just can’t believe it. Here is the official information about the art scholarship program.
Artist Kyle BlackCatTips Brooks was recently recognized at an event at Queen Bee Coffee Company in downtown McDonough with a surprise honorary art scholarship in his name. The scholarship will be awarded to a deserving graduating senior from the new McDonough High School that will be enrolled in higher education studying the disciplines of art.
The scholarship was created to honor Kyle’s Henry County, Georgia roots, to thank him for contributing his public art to the city of McDonough via a folk art mural at Pasta Max Cafe, and to encourage young people in our community to continue his creative visual arts legacy through higher learning.
The goal is to raise a minimum of $5,000 for the scholarship. A ProAm art show is being planned for next spring (2020) that will feature original art from both professional artists and local art students, with a portion of proceeds from sales to the public contributed to the scholarship.
In the meantime, Bank OZK in McDonough will be accepting monetary donations of any amount for the scholarship. The OZK McDonough branch is located at 1400 S Zack Hinton Parkway. If you would like to mail a check or money order to the Kyle Brooks Honorary Scholarship, please send to Bank OZK, 1400 S Zack Hinton Pkwy, McDonough GA

I, Kyle BlackCatTips Brooks, would like to thank I Love Mcdonough and Story on the Square and Pasta Max for making all of this happen — as well as all of the others who donated this year to my public art project in Henry County.
see you soon,
Kyle BlackCatTips Brooks
