City of Refuge Mural – Phase 1

April 6, 2012

I have been working this week at The City of Refuge on the west side of Atlanta. It is located on Joseph Boone Blvd. I was asked to create a mural for their new indoor playground. The wall I am painting is 80 feet long. The room is a brand new space created for kids who live at The City of Refuge to play; 4800 square feet of squishy green Astroturf. It is a unique room to paint in.

I created the idea and painted the lines; a giant coloring book if you will. This project is funded by The Arthur Blank Foundation. They will send a team of volunteers to color in the lines. I will create a color guide for them. Then I will come back and finish it all up. I have never had help painting so this should be interesting.

The City of Refuge is a great place. There is so much going on and they help so many people who have fallen on hard times. It is a place full of positive and happy people. I am glad I can be a part of this. I will return in May to finish the wall.

I made a short time lapse film of my 4 days working this week on the wall. Watch it here.
