A Mile Long Wall

February 7, 2011

I have been a nervous wreck. I am not sure why. I must have ordered up a nervous platter with a side of anxiety. I have too many irons in the fire or maybe I don’t have enough heat. I had a lot to do today and I suppose about half of my list was completed. Let me talk about a few things I did.

I had to go meet a ol’ fella I knew from way back. On the way I saw 6 wild turkeys. The aforementioned fella commissioned me to paint on his Fender Stratocaster guitar. You may wonder what one would have painted on their guitar. Flowers? Flames? An electric eel? Well, you will just have to wait and see. I will tell you this; laying down the first bit of paint on someone’s nice guitar is a bit daunting.

Next I drove downtown and went by the art supply store to pick up some supplies. I have another commission piece I am working on for a lady in Virginia and I needed some canvas. I am excited about having a couple new projects to work on this week. While I was there I left a sticker on the guard rail. I was still dealing with some nervousness.

This evening I began to paint. I realized after I took my first break that I was not anxious or nervous. Does the act of painting make me less nervous? Maybe it makes my mind work on another circuit. I do not understand it. When I go for a run it acts in a similar way. Jogging and painting seem to push the ‘reset’ button. I am glad that I have some more painting to do tonight.

I wish I had a wall a mile long. I could paint one end to the other. Then I would sit down and smile.
