Interstate Cross Construction (Gearing Up For FolkFest)

August 13, 2012

I have been painting everyday getting prepared for FolkFest 2012. It is this week, August 17, 18 and 19. I have made a lot of new pieces. I have even painted a collection of furniture; two end tables and a 4-drawer dresser. FolkFest was one of my goals for the year. I wanted to display last year but wasn’t ready yet. This year I will be in attendance. Look for a full report soon.

Between main painting projects I always have a side painting project going on. Over the last year, I have put crosses around Atlanta area roads and interstates. I left some way up GA 400. I hammered on in the ground way out I-20 East. There were many closer to home. Most of them have been taken by art “fans.” A few days ago, I put a “HAWK” cross out on GA 78 last week to honor my friend Hawk. It was a birthday present of sorts. This gave ne the idea to make a series of large crosses to put up in rapid succesion all around the area.

I bought fence slats and have been cutting and painting them. Now they are ready to assemble and find locations for. Because I want them to remain, I made individual signs for each. I want people to know these have a purpose and a goal. Each has a deeper meaning. The crosses will be in honor of someone that has meant a lot to me. A few are made for individuals; some are groups of people I think about often.

If you spot a LOVE cross while driving, think of someone who means a lot to you. Let them know you are thankful for their love and friendship.

See you at the Slotin FolkFest.
