Boys & Girls Club Visit

February 13, 2013

Today I took a drive and went for a visit with the Boys & Girls Club in Brookhaven neighborhood of Atlanta. I was supposed to go as part of a painting project I am doing. I was asked by WonderRoot to be a part of this upcoming event. It is in conjunction with the 75th anniversary of the Boys & Girls Club. Odd thing was that I didn’t see any 75 year olds there. Weird. I felt a bit confused but that is pretty normal for these days. Must be the lack of sunlight. Perhaps it was my recent bout with influenza.

I met with a few kids that had been chosen to represent the Brookhaven location. I talked to them and we drew some things. I took a couple of my wooden cut out paintings to show them some work I had done. We talked and joked and they asked me about my beard. Lots of children wanted to talk to me. All the attention made me feel great. We drew rockets and wrote our names and one girl drew vampire teeth people. One boy made me a “basketball book.” It was a good visit and I hope the kids got something out of it. I am pretty sure I did.

I will take my visit and use it as inspiration as I paint 3 wooden doors for an upcoming Boys and Girls Club event. There will be an art show and then the doors will be located for a time around Atlanta. Stay tuned.
