Painting On The Floor

October 11, 2013

Yesterday I painted on a concrete floor in a fancy fun loft in Cabbagetown. The site is very historic as it was the location of railroad track factory. The Union troops exploded and burnt it down before leaving Atlanta in September of 1864. After Reconstruction it was a cotton mill and now is home to many folks. In the spring of 1999 it was also the site of a great fire and dramatic helicopter rescue.

I had painted a mural for friends in the loft earlier this year. They called me back to decorate their floor. I should paint more concerete floors. I had a a lot of ideas flow through my mind as I painted– painted rugs and circles of flowers and rivers of multi-colored stripes.  It is great to know people such as Skip and Fran. Their love of art and all things curious sits well quite with me.

They requested that I paint a bear with lips and a long-snout rat–so I did. Sometimes I want to leave Atlanta. Sometimes I want to move to Cabbagetown.
