Re-Paintings

Three paintings in progress.

Sunday night it snowed and sleeted. Then we had some frozen rain. I have been stuck inside for a couple days so I started a few paintings. Really they are “re-paintings.” I call them that because I have a lot of old paintings that do not please me anymore.

I have had them a long time and really do not like looking at them so much. Some of them have been under the bed or behind the sofa. I had considered burning them or leaving them in a field but so far I have just been painting over the ones I do not like. The yellow dog is painted over a portrait of me. The white bears are over an old background of green with song lyrics.

Why is it that the longer I paint, the simpler my painting style is becoming? I love to watch the brush let the paint flow onto the surface. I like the bold bright colors. I like the way one paint covers up and blends into another. When I am painting I always feel like it is what I am supposed to be doing at the time. I think this is what keeps me going.
