Bear Head On A Tree

June 5, 2011

I slept too late yesterday. It was kind of an accident. I got up earlier today. I wanted to somehow try to redeem my sloth-like qualities. Rise and shine sucka face. I drove up the street and climbed a ladder. I put a big bear head on an old tree at an intersection of a few roads. I had to wait until the folks got on the bus so they wouldn’t ask me any questions. Just act like you are supposed to be installing art. Act like you are doing something official. I hope the bear will adorn the intersection for a good while. I have no money in it so it wouldn’t be a financial loss if it was removed. However, I would feel a tinge of sadness because I think paintings can make people happy. I do not want to rob anyone of their happiness. In the right hands, paint and wood and a idea or two can create happiness and wonder. Don’t you think so?

Yesterday I stopped on the way back from Decatur and installed two crosses on trees. I put one next to a grocery store and one next to a soccer field. Friday I put two more vegetables on the East Atlanta farmer’s market sign. I have some more wood I found yesterday so now I can create an eggplant for this upcoming week.

I found out this week that I was chosen to create a mural on the Atlanta BeltLine. I am very excited about this new opportunity to show Atlanta more of my art.  I will find out the details in the next few days.

I also helped Charlie Brouwer deconstruct his Rise Up Atlanta ladder sculpture in Freedom Park. It was about 95 degrees but it was a fun day. I haven’t drunk so much water in a long time. I enjoyed working with him and his wife and I would like to thank them for being so nice and inspiring me think bigger thoughts.
