Hey people looking for operation free art... READ THIS

What is FREE ART? Is it free simply because there is no cost or is it free because it is placed in the public arena for all to enjoy? Is it better to take the art for your own or better to leave it as a "gift" for all who pass by? You must decide. Sometimes I will display art with the intention of being taken by the first person who finds it. I will list the drop-off location and the race is on. Other times it is a public installation to remain and be enjoyed. Either way, the intention is to create a message of love, creativity and happiness.

Update: Operation Free Art has been suspended due to a broken heart and troubled mind.

Love: Bear Cross In Fayetteville
July 18, 2011

Operation Free Art now has an outpost on the side of Highway 85 just south of Fayetteville. I put a big cross up as well as a couple smaller wooden bear heads. This installation is on private property which I have permission to use so I feel good about that. I made a smaller "Operation Free Art" sign so people driving by might get the idea.

Update: I had a post on my Blackcattips' Facebook page today. It made me very happy.

It read, " Hi Kyle, thanks for sharing your artwork on Hwy 85 in Fayetteville! I just love the bears and the love cross. They always put a smile on my face! Operation free art is awesome!! Thanks again! "

Art On Trees
June 5, 2011

In the last few days I have been busy putting out new art for folks. I was given an old half broken ladder. I cut it shorter so it would fit in my truck. Now I have a way to climb up and put art on trees.

I put some new wooden vegetables on a sign in East Atlanta. I put a few crosses and bear heads out too. If you live around Atlanta keep your eyes peeled for Free Art in trees.

Update: I received an email from the person in charge of the EAV farmer's market. She said they wanted more. You can't ask for a better repsonse than that. She requested some happy okra.

Art By The Road
May 14, 2011

I have left many paintings next to the road in the last two weeks. I haven't announced most of them. I have planted about 5 Bear Cross Memorials. I have left a few bears on signs. I have put crosses next to interstate exit ramps. I have put a "love stick" on a tree.

I heard photographer Bill Cunningham say, " If you dont take money, they can't tell you what to do. That is the key to the whole thing."

I like that.

Check out some of my free art by the road images here.

Free Art Good
April 30, 2011

I left this painting, Free Art Good, on the corner of Moreland Avenue and the Edgewood Shopping Center. A guy named Marlon decided he would take it. He also somehow found me at the Inman Park Festival. He stopped and introduced himself. I hope you enjoy the door Marlon...

My other door called, One Fella Liked Free Art, was placed on Highland Avenue. It was picked up by Jen. Congratulations to you. Doors open doors.

Asheville
March 19-22, 2011

I went to the Asheville, North Carolina area and took some free art with me. I gave away 4 paintings. I left 3 of them in various spots around downtown Asheville. I left the other on the top of Mt. Mitchell. As far as I know, all of the paintings were taken by someone. I saw 2 of them being carried away. This was fun to watch.

The painting of the house, 4502, was taken by Olivia. She took this painting and gave it a happy home in her dorm room at the University of North Carolina-Asheville.

The yellow and green painting of the guy, Kelly's Boyfriend, was left for someone on top of Mount Mitchell. Karen from Maryland claimed it and her son will be hanging it in his room at the University of Maryland. When she gave it to her son he said, "That is sick!" Awesome.

Free Art Friday
March 18, 2011

I left this painting, Green Bear 45, on top of the Freedom Park stone sign at the corner of Moreland Avenue and Freedom Parkway at 5:30pm. See location here.

If you find it first it is yours. Just follow these 3 rules...
1. Let me know who found it.
2. Be happy
3. Tell some friends about Operation Free Art.

Update: Charlie Brouwer, an artist from Virginia, found my painting as he was scouting Freedom Park for his new art installation. It is part of FLUX. Check it out. It will be part of the Inman Park Festival weekend events. This is going to get a lot of press in April.

My art ladder was mentioned in this article about Charlie's Project in Freedom Park. Read it here.
