From Wood to Wonder

March 11, 2025

From wood to wonder. Maybe I wonder how they will ever get finished or wonder how they make folks smile. If you wondered how I make some of my wooden cutouts here is the post for you.

Every piece of art I make starts with a rough idea. A lot of it starts with a rough piece of wood. I sketch out the shape with a brush or marker and then cut it by hand with a jigsaw. Then I use my power sander. After that I apply primer and then base coats of paint. All of this is before i really “paint” anything. Before the colors and details take over, there’s a process—a rhythm I go through every time. The “work” in art work. Right now, I’ve got a batch of owls and cats and sunshine people in the works — freshly sanded and covered in their first layers of primer.

These are the moments I don’t always show—the part before the final piece comes to life. I thought it’d be fun to share a little behind-the-scenes look at the process. If one of these speaks to you already, let me know.

You can always write me write me and ask about any paintings you see online. It is ok to wonder. Thanks!

See you soon,
