Birds of a Feather Show Opening

August 1, 2026

Last Saturday, June 25, we had the opening reception for my show at Paradise Garden. We drove up to Summerville, Georgia, to the former home of Howard Finster. We loaded up the children, my paintings, and the notes for my artist talk. We arrived a little early, and to my surprise, there were already people waiting for us.

More folks began to arrive. Before long I was shaking hands, catching up with old friends, and then it was time to give my talk. There we all were: a room full of kind people, a cake with my name on it, crackers and snacks on the table, a few cats wandering about, one little old dog, and all the wonderful art-filled spirit of Paradise Garden gathered together. I talked about my residency, my paintings, and how I make my work. I shared stories about birds, sang a song about a woodpecker, and read a poem I’d written called Friends. The talk was warmly received, and afterward we took photos, visited with everyone, and enjoyed the afternoon together.

I was truly thankful that so many people made the trip to Summerville to see my art. It is a real honor to have my work on display for a couple of months at Howard Finster’s Paradise Garden. A few years ago, I never would have imagined something like this. I’m deeply grateful to everyone at Paradise Garden for inviting me to have this show. As I said during my talk, this experience feels like a fine feather in my hat.

Birds of a Feather: BlackCatTips in Paradise Garden will be on display through September 27, 2026. Paradise Garden is located at 200 N. Lewis Street, Summerville, GA 30747. If you have any questions about the artwork, please call 706-808-0800.

See you soon,
Kyle BlackCatTips Brooks
