Art On The Atlanta BeltLine

February 25, 2011

I attended a meeting this week about the Art on the Atlanta BeltLine project. A friend had sent me a link to their site and this upcoming project so I decided to check it out. The meeting was at WonderRoot. I had been by there many times but never visited. This seems like a cool place for local artists and the community in general.

I plan on submitting a proposal for the BeltLine project. You can submit ideas for installations, sculpture, performance projects, murals, etc. I plan on creating a concept for a mural. They have several underpasses and walls that I hope I can paint. I was thinking of something big and bold. I would like to create a work similar to my folk style paintings. I think I will need to buy a very large brush.

I have a month to get my proposal created. I will need to figure out what I want to create and then plan out the cost and logistics. How much will a 50 gallon drum of red paint cost? If my idea is accepted, the installation will take place in the summer and the public event will be held in the early fall. I am excited about the chance to paint something the public can  view.

I keep thinking of ideas. Maybe I could paint a really long folk-art style snake or a herd of goats.
